For the month of December, Wal-Mart total company sales increased 6.3% to $40.83 billion from $38.42 billion during the same month last year. For domestic Wal-Mart stores, sales increased 6.7% to $27.92 billion from $26.18 billion last year. Sam's Club saw sales increase 4.8% to $4.61 billion from $4.40 billion last year. Total company comparable sales increased 2.2% on a 1.9% increase at Wal-Mart Stores and a 3.6% increase at Sam's Club.

During the five-week and forty-eight-week periods, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. added over $2.4 billion and $25.2 billion in sales, respectively.

The company estimates comparable sales in the U.S. for the January four-week period to be in the 3% to 5% range.

The company estimates earnings per share for the fourth fiscal quarter to come in near the low end of guidance of 82 cents to 86 cents per share.
