The Velodrome Fund, Inc., which operates the Valley Preferred Cycling Center (VPCC) in Trexlertown, PA, has appointed Gary Thornton as executive director, timed with the track’s 50th year of operation in 2026.
Thornton’s career spans over three decades, bridging both the operational and public-facing sides of the sport, including senior leadership roles at Detroit Bikes and Beacon Manufacturing. He also served as a professional announcer at nationally recognized cycling races and marathons.
“I’m honored to join the Valley Preferred Cycling Center as we prepare to celebrate the track’s 50th anniversary,” said Thornton. “Being entrusted with the opportunity to enable the next generation of riders and racers while promoting cycling as a healthy, lifelong activity is incredibly exciting. I’m committed to ensuring the Valley Preferred Cycling Center continues to thrive for decades to come.”
“We’re excited to welcome Gary to the Valley Preferred Cycling Center,” said Andrew Rodale Norelli, chair of the VPCC Board of Directors. “As we approach the track’s 50th anniversary, we’re focused on continuing my grandfather Bob Rodale’s legacy—building a world-class track cycling facility in Lehigh Valley and empowering the community to live healthier lives through the sport of cycling. Gary brings the experience, energy, and perspective to carry that vision forward.”
