Patrick “Pitt” Grewe on Monday was appointed by Utah Governor Gary Herbert as the third director of Utah’s Office of Outdoor Recreation. Established in 2013, the organization was the nation’s first office of outdoor recreation.

Grewe joins a team housed within the Utah Governor’s Office of Outdoor Recreation that represents the governor in outdoor recreation matters, hosts the country’s largest state-sponsored outdoor recreation summit and manages several grant programs that support local Utah communities’ outdoor recreation initiatives.

“We conducted an extensive two-month search to find our new director for the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation,” said Val Hale, GOED’s executive director. “Pitt quickly rose to the top of the candidates because of his love for Utah, the great outdoors and his noteworthy experience working in, marketing and managing some of Utah’s most recognizable outdoor brands. We know he’ll represent the state and the governor very well and look forward to welcoming his contributions to the GOED team.”

In his role as director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation, Grewe will work to expand and improve Utah’s outdoor recreational opportunities and assets. He’ll collaborate with local, state and federal land managers and natural resource agencies to represent outdoor recreation’s interests. He’ll work to inspire Utahns, especially the state’s youth, to engage in outdoor recreation.

A husband and father of three who lives in Sandy, UT, Grewe comes to GOED from Bivy.com, where he served for three years as the company’s marketing director. Before that, he worked as marketing operations manager at Goal Zero, customer sales and support manager at Petzl America, founder and instructor of Rapid Progression Kayak School, and lift operations supervisor and training coordinator at Utah’s Canyons Resort. Grewe has a bachelor’s of arts in international studies from Utah State University.

“Utah is my home, and the great outdoors is my playground, my classroom and my passion,” Grewe said. “I couldn’t be more excited to accept the appointment from Gov. Herbert to be the director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. I know we’ll do great things to advance and promote outdoor recreation as part of Utahn’s excellent quality of life.”
