Trips for Kids National is pleased to welcome its two most recent chapters, formed by the Desert Recreation District (DRD) in Indio, CA and the Buellton Park and Recreation Department in Buellton, CA. While there has long been a broad and welcomed diversity among the now 76 chapters, the two newest chapters are the first chapters organized and run by government entities.

Other chapter affiliates have included Boys and Girls Clubs, Police Activities Leagues (PAL), YMCAs, Boy Scouts and churches.

“We've come a long way in the last 23 years, and are thrilled and proud to have government groups join as Trips for Kids chapters,” said Marilyn Price, Trips for Kids Director. “We wish both DRD and Buellton great success and years of happy, healthy rides with thriving, healthy kids!”

Each of the chapters is excited and poised to help many underserved youth in their respective areas.

“From the first time I heard of Trips for Kids I immediately knew I needed to be a part of a TFK chapter,” said Felicia Horton, Desert Recreation District special events supervisor. “DRD has everything in place to make the Trips for Kids Coachella Valley Chapter a huge success! The children involved will grow from each experience.”

“The reason I wanted to start a TFK chapter is to reach kids through the sport of mountain biking,” said Paul Smith, Buellton TFK chapter founder. “The youth in Buellton are so pumped on this new program and can't wait till the next trip. It gives them an outlet from the drama at home and school.”
