The TJX Companies, Inc. reported May 2003 sales results. Sales for the four-week period ended May 31, 2003, were $975 million, up 10% over $884 million achieved during the four-week period ended June 1, 2002. Consolidated comparable store sales for the four-week period ended May 31, 2003, increased 3% over last year.

For the seventeen weeks ended May 31, 2003, sales reached $3,816 million, a 6% increase over last year’s $3,594 million. For the seventeen-week period ended May 31, 2003, consolidated comparable store sales decreased 1% versus a strong 6% increase last year.

English, President and Chief Executive Officer of The TJX Companies, Inc., commented, “We achieved a 3% comparable store sales increase on a consolidated basis despite the unseasonably cool weather that prevailed in many regions of the country.
