The North Face issued its first public sustainability report, which covers the company's progress in 2010 on using bluesign approved and recycled fabrics, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste and increasing  participation in outdoor recreation and volunteerism.The report also establishes goals for 2011 through 2015.

 

Those goals include: 




  • Increasing use of bluesign approved fabrics as a percentage of fabric sourced from 21 percent in 2010 to 27 percent in 2011 and 65 percent in 2015


  • Increasing recycled fabric content from 6 percent in 2010 to 7 percent in 2011 to 30 percent in 2015


  • Decreasing GHG emissions by 7.5 percent in 2011 and reducing GHG emissions for U.S. operations per unit sold by 25 percent from 2008 levles.


  • Recycling one million polybags in 2011


  • Increasing U.S. employees' use of volunteering benefit from 22 percent of available hours to 30 percent in 2012
     

“It’s not just our responsibility to ensure our products and business practices have the smallest possible impact on the environment – we strive to be a leader in meeting those challenges,” The North Face President Todd Spaletto said in a letter to the company. “This is just the first update on our progress; we remain committed to the challenge of seamlessly embedding our commitment to sustainability into every aspect of our business.”
