The Conservation Alliance Names Speaker for OR Breakfast

 

The breakfast, which is open to the public, is Thursday morning, Jan. 23, 2014 from 7:00 – 8:50 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel in Salt Lake City.

Davis’s work as an anthropologist and botanical explorer has taken him throughout the world, and earned him praise as “a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all of life’s diversity.” The National Geographic Society named him one of the Explorers for the Millennium. His Sacred Headwaters presentation tells the story of his community in British Columbia standing up to protect the headwaters of the Stikine, Skeena, and Nass rivers from energy development.

 

“I could listen to Wade Davis talk about anything, so I’m excited to hear the story of his community in BC standing up for their own backyard,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance. “Wade spoke at our breakfast in 2006, and left people awestruck. We’re in for a real treat.”

 

In addition to Davis’s talk, The Conservation Alliance Breakfast will feature a summary of the organization’s accomplishments in 2013, and a look ahead to plans for the coming year. Membership in the Alliance is open to companies representing all aspects of the outdoor industry, including manufacturers, retailers, publishers, mills and sales representatives. Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed more than $12.6 million to grassroots conservation groups. Alliance funding has helped save more than 41 million acres of wildlands; protect 2,700 miles of rivers; stop or remove 25 dams; designate five marine reserves; and purchase nine climbing areas.
