The Clymb said launched its Adventures program July 8, noting that it had booked thousands of adventure travel trips through a pilot program.

The program, which is being run by the former head of REI’s adventure travel unit, offers online shoppers a curated selection of adventure travel experiences from around the globe. The Clymb, which has thrived by helping premium outdoor brands liquidate surplus goods via the private sale model, has teamed up with leading, small group adventure travel tour operators for the launch.

“We’ve been beta testing our Adventures trips for several months and we’ve booked thousands of them so far-the demand has been strong,” says Kelly Dachtler, president and co-founder of The Clymb. “Sixty percent of our members have a passport and 85 percent of them are planning an adventure travel trip within the year. Partnering with an industry leader like Intrepid Travel will allow us to offer more incredible trips around the world.”

Heading up Adventures at The Clymb is Luis Vargas, formerly head of REI’s adventure travel program team. Prior to REI, Vargas worked as the trip development manager for Adventures by Disney. He is a board member of Sustainable Travel International and has spent his career enabling others to experience the planet and its many cultures in active and sustainable ways. At The Clymb, Vargas leads a team of adventure travel experts that connect members with the very best tour operators and destinations on earth.

Among the tour groups selling on TheClymb.com is Intrepid Travel, a Melbourne, Australia company that offers more than 1,000 itineraries in more than 100 countries. The company specializes in creating small-group, immersive adventure experiences with a focus on grassroots, responsible travel practices.

“Intrepid Travel is a great example of the kind of tour operator we want to partner with,” said Vargas. “The quality of Intrepid’s trips, as well as their focus on sustainable tourism, aligns perfectly with our brand values.”

The Clymb kicked off the new business Monday with a contest that will give its fans on Facebook a chance to win a trip.
