Bicycle Sports, which operates one store in Beaumont, TX, announced plans to close after 41 years of operation.
Owner Eric Bender said the rise of e-commerce has made it difficult for the store to compete with online retailers that sell directly to consumers.
Bender told local 12 News Now that sales spiked in the early stages of the pandemic but have been pressured in recent years due to online competition.
“My whole life is bicycles, 100 percent bicycles. Every brand that we sell, every brand that we represent is available online direct to the consumer, and they don’t appear to have a lot of regard for us as a brick-and-mortar outfit, so the margins are razor thin,” Bender said.
Bicycle Sports is holding a liquidation sale and will close its store on October 18, 2025.
