Tecnica USA, inventor and owner of Moon Boot, has been granted an expansion of the Moon Boot trademark under Madrid protocols by the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office. In recognition of Tecnica being the inventor of the Moon Boot and the true owner of the name in the footwear category, Tecnica has been granted Trademark Registration number 3,095,780.

Tecnica had previously enforced ownership of the Moon Boot trademark from a perspective of both common law and international registration. A large history of successful enforcement reinforces the common law claim and serves as the most effective tool in enforcing the Moon Boot trademark. Expanding the Moon Boot registration from International to a US specific registration via the USPTO provides Tecnica additional tools in enforcing the Moon Boot trademark.

“This expansion allows Tecnica to aggressively enforce our trademark against copies and knock-offs,” said Kevin Dixon, Vice-President of Footwear for Tecnica. “The USPTO’s ruling provides a wide range of additional enforcement tools. With a registered trademark in hand, we’ve already filed with U.S. Customs, under their Trademark Recordation program, to prevent importation of infringing goods that incorporate our trademark either on the boot or in the boot description. In addition, Tecnica can now invoke the jurisdiction of federal courts, should it be necessary, in a our enforcement efforts,”

“The expansion of the Moon Boot® trademark is but one step in a heightened effort to combat copies and knock-offs”, said Dixon “We’re also expanding our efforts in patenting designs within our Apres Fashion footwear category to combat copies. We have a duty to our dealers in protecting proprietary designs that serve as the foundation of our business.”

Tecnica is a manufacturer of high quality Apres Fashion footwear in the $250-$550 price range. In addition, Tecnica is the originator of popular Moon Boot® which has become a cultural icon. Tecnica began making footwear in Italy in 1938 and pioneered the Apres fashion segment in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
