Switchback, a sister event to The Running Event (TRE) focused on outdoor industry business and education, has added three outdoor industry professionals to its growing team. Joe Jackson has joined the team as marketing manager, Amelia Arvesen has been named editor of Trailheads, and Ryan Nettleton has joined as sales manager.
Diversified, the owner of Switchback and TRE, said the additions build on the team evolution that began last winter after outdoor industry veteran Sean Smith was named Switchback event director, and former director Christina Henderson was elevated to VP of Diversified’s Endurance Portfolio, which includes both Switchback and The Running Event.
The first event for the new team members will be Switchback Spring (June 16–18, 2026) in New Orleans, LA, with more than 230 brands exhibiting and a full day of education programming featuring leadership sessions, retailer-focused workshops and industry conversations.

Joe Jackson brings more than 25 years of experience in the outdoor industry to the marketing manager role. He spent over a decade at Outside as the publication’s Gear Guy and previously held editorial roles at Paddler Magazine and Canoe & Kayak. Most recently, he served as an editor of Trailheads, Switchback’s content platform for the outdoor industry.
Amelia Arvesen’s editorial experience includes covering the outdoor industry since 2018 as an independent journalist based in Portland, OR. Her time in the outdoor sector includes editorial work at SNEWS, Outside Business Journal, Outside, Backpacker, Trails, and Field Mag. At Trailheads, Arvesen is expected to focus on the people and forces shaping the evolution of brands, independent specialty retailers, and the outdoor community.
Ryan Nettleton’s sales experience spans more than two decades of event support, including seven years at Surf Expo as a category manager. With Switchback, Nettleton is expected to focus on growing and deepening the event’s brand and exhibitor relationships across both Switchback Spring and Switchback at The Running Event.
