Acushnet will apparently need to lay off more than 200 workers at a Pinnacle ball manufacturing plant in Massachusetts after supplies of raw materials required for use in ball covers were interrupted.

A local New Bedford paper said supply of a key plastic called Surlyn was cut off after Hurricane Rita caused damage at a Dupont plant in Texas. The layoffs are expected to be temporary, but the company did not specify how long work would be curtailed.

Acushnet apparently diverted existing Surlyn supplies from Pinnacle balls to manufacture Titleist brand balls.
