In response to questions concerning the legality of thigh pads in an integrated football compression girdle following an April article in SGD TEAM Business magazine, Stromgren Athletics, a leader in football compression clothing and protective performance apparel for 30 years, reiterated that all Stromgren football girdles with thigh pads do continue to meet the NFHS Rule 1-5-h.

Stromgren Athletics COO Steve Arensdorf told TEAM Business Update that the issue was addressed at the recent meeting of the NFHS and manufacturers of athletic equipment where it was once again announced that the existing rule for NFHS thigh pads will continue to remain in effect.

The NFHS Rule 1-5-h states:
'Thigh guards, unaltered from the manufacturers' original design/production, which shall have any hard surface covered with material such as closed-cell vinyl foam which has a minimum compression resistance of 4-8 pounds for 25-percent compression or other material with equivalent specifications and is at least 1/4 inch thick on the outside surface and at least 3/8 inch thick on the inside surface and the overlap of the edge.'

In addition, all players are required to wear hip and tail pads, NFHS Rule 1-5-b.
