Stein Mart, Inc. reported a 6.9% increase in total sales in November to $144.7 million from $135.4 million during last year's month. Comparable store sales for the month increased 3.8%.

During November, the best sales trends were in men's and ladies' sportswear. Geographically, all regions of the country were positive, with the strongest sales performance throughout the South and in the West.

“Overall, November sales results were slightly better than anticipated, driven primarily by strong sales leading up to Thanksgiving,” noted Michael D. Fisher, president and chief executive officer of Stein Mart, Inc.

Stein Mart completed its 2006 store-opening schedule in November with the opening of three stores: Pittsburgh, Palm Beach, and Atlanta. The Company now has 268 locations, compared to 262 stores open at the end of November 2005. No more openings or closings are anticipated through the end of the fiscal year.
