Following Genesco Inc.’s acquisition of Anaconda Sports announced last week the team dealer business took another step toward becoming a man-on-man game as Sports Supply Group snagged its own Northeast dealer.
Sport Supply Group, which recently went private in a deal with private equity firm ONCAP LLC, has acquired Pal's Sports Center of Elmira, NY. Terms were not disclosed.
Pal President George Maloney will stay on to manage Pal's and all current employees are expected to be retained.
Pal's Sporting Goods was established in 1946 in Elmira by Lou Paltrowitz, who sold the business to George and Dianne Maloney in 1980. The new owners changed the name of the business several years later to reflect its new focus on supplying equipment to athletic teams instead of individual athletes.
