Sports Authority announced a philanthropic partnership with the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) to promote the month of May as Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Beginning May 1, Sports Authority for the first time is accepting MRA donations at all check out locations nationwide as well as leveraging in-store opportunities to create awareness around skin cancer education.

“Sports Authority proudly partners with the Melanoma Research Alliance in supporting the cause to create public awareness about the importance of skin care and melanoma,” said David Campisi, President and CEO of Sports Authority. “We find it necessary to help educate the public and raise awareness around the importance of protecting your skin as most of the products we provide in our stores encourage adults and youth alike to go outside and be active – it is important that we help protect them.”

Sports Authority will be accepting donations through POS, Sports Authority grant, vendor and associate donations. In addition, all 462 Sports Authority stores will house educational information for customers along with skin care recommendations and samples.

“No one organization can tackle the growing problem of melanoma alone. We welcome Sports Authority’s support in raising awareness about the dangers of melanoma and the importance of protecting your skin,” said Wendy K.D. Selig, President and CEO of MRA.
