Sports Authority Appoints Chief Marketing Officer

Sports Authority appointed Ron Stoupa as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. In his new role, Stoupa will be responsible for leading the strategic development and oversight of the company’s marketing plans to further build the Sports Authority brand.

Prior to joining Sports Authority, Stoupa served as chief marketing officer at Pep Boys, an auto parts and service retailer with more than 800 locations nationwide. In this role, he oversaw the repositioning of a brand that had been in place more than 90 years, and led all aspects of marketing, including strategy, CRM and creative. Prior to his time at Pep Boys, Stoupa held marketing positions at well-known organizations, such as Bass Pro Shops and Black & Decker.

Sports Authority announced that Paul M. Okimoto has joined the company as chief marketing officer. In his new role, Okimoto is responsible for leading the strategic development and oversight of the companys overall marketing plans to drive traffic and sales at stores nationwide and through the e-commerce platform. Mr. Okimoto is a 20-year marketing and general management executive with demonstrated success in retail, high-technology, mobile telecommunications, advertising and the consumer packaged goods industries.

Paul has a proven track record of leading innovative marketing strategies for a variety of national retailers and brands, said Darrell Webb, Chairman and CEO of Sports Authority. His expertise in acquiring and retaining profitable customers and indentifying new market opportunities and strategic partnerships will be extremely valuable to Sports Authority as we focus on continued growth over the long term. We are thrilled to have Paul on board as we drive our marketing efforts forward.

Prior to joining Sports Authority, Okimoto served as vice president of marketing at RadioShack Corporation. Previously, Okimoto also held positions with The Nielsen Company as vice president of corporate marketing and AT&T Wireless as head of integrated marketing communications. He began his professional career at Procter & Gamble.
