Speedo has launched a new swim program designed to inspire people who run as part of their fitness routine to get in the pool. Make 1K Wet shows runners how to swap 5K on the road for 1K in the pool, helping runners to become fitter and stronger while enjoying the benefits of a full body workout through swimming.

A recent international study conducted by OnePoll of people who swim and run found that 80.28 percent of people said swimming helps them run harder for longer, and 85.81 percent of people said swimming helps enhance their performance when running. Furthermore, 89.5 percent of people said they feel fitter and stronger when they combine swimming with running, and 87 percent of people said swimming helps improve their stamina when running and taking part in other fitness activities.

Working with Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel, Speedo’s Make 1K Wet campaign demonstrates how easy it is to improve your fitness through swimming. Nathalie recently got back into swimming after learning to dive for a film role, which inspired her to read up on the benefits of swimming for running. She has since been spending more time in the pool with the help of Speedo Make 1K Wet coach Annie Emmerson and French Olympic swimmer Florent Manaudou.

Nathalie said, “I’ve never been the most confident in the pool, but by following the Make 1K Wet training plan I’ve already seen huge improvements in my fitness. By learning a few simple skills I’m much more capable in the water; I feel stronger, I’ve got more energy and I’m sleeping better. What’s more, I’ve seen how swimming has helped my overall fitness, I can now run harder and faster for longer.”

Designed by former ITU triathlete and duathlete Annie Emmerson, the Make 1K Wet program features a series of simple 1K swim training plans from beginner to advanced level, catering to people who are running anything from 5K distances or marathons Emmerson devised the program with the aim of providing runners with a new challenge to aid their running.

Emmerson said, “The Make 1K Wet program breaks down barriers for runners of all abilities, whether you run competitively, for fitness or fun. We know runners are mileage driven beings, so it’s a great way to showcase that you can achieve just as much through swimming as running. We want runners to challenge themselves to get in the pool to make 1k wet and see the benefits for themselves.”
