Mountain High
Resort became the latest ski resort to open for business in Southern California Tuesday. The resort said it opened its rail garden and plans to open at least one
top-to-bottom run open if not more by Wednesday.

Elsewhere in Southern California, Snow Summit is scheduled to open on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Bear Mountain will follow with opening day celebrations on Friday, Nov. 28.  Mammoth Mountain, which acquired both those resorts this fall, has been open since Nov. 13.

“The combination of cold
temperatures and recent improvements have made for great snowmaking and
our snowmaking crew was able to put down 12 inches of new snow over the
past few days,” said Ben Smith,
General Manger. Its a special treat to be open for Thanksgiving and
resort operators couldnt be more excited.

Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) has delayed its 2014/15-season opening due to unseasonably warm weather conditions and low precipitation. The opening that was originally planned for Friday, Nov. 28, is postponed to a December date that is still to be determined. For updates on LVSSRS opening, visit www.skilasvegas.com.

In previous years, weve opened as early as October and as late as Christmas, so given the law of averages regarding weather patterns, Thanksgiving weekend is an ideal target date for our opening, said Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR president and general manager. We need 72 hours of cold temperatures to produce snow and with a storm system heading our way this Sunday, we will have everything in place for a December opening.
