A silent auction is being held to benefit Andy Knapp's memorial fund to
help defray some of
the significant medical bills that piled up during his illness. As
reported, the long time head buyer of hardgoods at Midwest
Mountaineering in Minneapolis passed away at home on June 22 after a
long battle with kidney cancer.

According
to Midwest Mountaineering's website, bids for a brand-new Bell
Northwind canoe are being accepted via e-mail only at
andysboat@midwestmtn.com. The retailer is asking bidders to include
their name, telephone number and bid amount. Midwest Mountaineering
will contact bidders prior to the close of bidding for information
verification.

The canoe is 17½ feet long, 36 inches wide, weighs
48 lbs. and is constructed in Bell's premium Black Gold carbon/kevlar
layup with wood trim. Bell Canoe has donated half the wholesale value
of this canoe. The retail value of this boat is $3,240.95.

Bidding
will be closed and the canoe awarded to the highest bidder Friday, July
17th at 8:00 p.m. at the Celebration of Life Party at the Cedar
Cultural Center. All proceeds will go to the Andy Knapp Memorial Fund
for the benefit of Andy's family.
