La Sportiva hired Jim Shimberg as their new Northeast Tech Rep. In this newly-created position, Jim will provide dedicated event and dealer support for the Northeast. He will be traveling the region to facilitate in-store clinics as well as attend and support La Sportiva-sponsored events. This grassroots program will take Jim
everywhere from trail races, climbing competitions, and outdoor retailers to college campuses, national parks, and trade shows. He will work closely with the La Sportiva
Marketing staff to facilitate regional events and assist the event organizers with whatever they need.

“Jim’s been a part of La Sportiva for a long time as a part of out product testing team,
and we’re really excited to have him onboard in this new role,” said Kathy Dykes, La
Sportiva’s Sports Marketing Coordinator. “He’ll be a huge asset to our efforts in the
Northeast, and he truly embodies La Sportiva with his passion for rock, ice, and the
trail.”

One of the most respected names in North American climbing, Shimberg has
established over 30 first ascents on rock and over 20 first ascents on ice and mixed
terrain. Some notable ascents include “Call of the Wild,” the first Grade VI ice climb
recorded in New England; a 50-hour ascent of El Capitan’s Salathé Wall; as well as
many of the Towers in Canyonlands, including the Sixshooters, Rectory, and Sister
Superior.

But it’s not only in the vertical world that Jim thrives. His other passion is running and
racing, making him the perfect fit for La Sportiva. Shimberg has completed 34
marathons-with a best of 2:46-and countless road and trail races over the last 20
years. Jim and his wife Dawn reside in Campton, New Hampshire where they run
Rhinoceros Mountain Guides, a guide service started by Jim Shimberg in 1985.
