Representatives from Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Dunham’s Sports, Gander Mountain and Wal-Mart Stores were among those attending the White House meeting Thursday on gun violence. The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) also attended a session earlier in the day.

The retailers met Thursday with Attorney General Eric Holder at a White House meeting aimed at curbing gun violence
in the wake of last months massacre at a Connecticut elementary school. The meeting with retailers was held at 3:15.

The initiative led by Vice President Joe Biden has involved discussions with gun-control advocates, families of victims of shootings, gun owners groups including the National Rifle Association, and sporting groups including Ducks Unlimited and the Outdoor Industry Association.

Biden was set to meet Thursday night with entertainment industry executives including from Comcast Corp. (NYSE: CMC), the Motion Picture Association of America and the National Association of Broadcasters.

After the meeting, the NRF said it was disappointed with the meeting. Its statement read, “We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be prejudged, this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners-honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nations most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works-and what does not.”

The meetings schedule was disclosed in a White House pool report Thursday morning.
