The Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) presented the Champion of Health and Fitness award to Congressman Charles Boustany Sept. 10 to honor his support of active lifestyles and strong leadership on the PHIT Act.

SFIA is presenting the annual award during their annual Industry Leaders Summit, which brings together executives across the sports and fitness industry to address issues facing the industry and network.

“We are honored to have Congressman Charles Boustany sponsoring the PHIT Act and couldn't ask for a better person to lead the effort on the PHIT Act in Congress. Not only is Dr. Boustany one of the top medical experts in Congress, but he lives the active, healthy lifestyle PHIT will encourage. As a cardiologist, Dr. Boustany knows the importance of physical activity in preventing disease and PHIT will make healthy activity more affordable,” said Tom Cove, SFIA president and CEO.

Congressman Charles Boustany Jr., a cardiovascular surgeon with more than 30 years of clinical experience, was first elected to Congress in 2004. Boustany represents Louisiana’s Third Congressional District, covering South Louisiana. Boustany is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and serves on the W&M Health Subcommittee as the leading medical expert in congress.

SFIA Vice President of Government and Public Affairs presented the award to the Congressman’s District Director on Thursday September 10th at 8:15 a.m.

This is the fourth year the SFIA has recognized and honored policymakers who are making good decisions for the industry and active lifestyles. In March the award was presented to Senator John Thune (R-SD) and in 2014 the honors went to Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Representative Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV).
