SewSporty, a U.S.-based athletic apparel manufacturer, has acquired Stonewear, the women’s fitness brand, from Great Trango Holdings Inc (GTHI).

Stonewear’s made-in-the-USA collection offers a range of fitness and lifestyle apparel for hiking, rock climbing, yoga, running, travel and everyday wear. The brand was founded in 1996.

SewSporty manufactures traditional and technical sportswear with roots in rowing, cycling, running and yoga since 1987. The completed transaction expands the privately held athletic apparel manufacturer’s presence in the women’s performance lifestyle category.

“Stonewear has established strong market share and we believe the brand has potential to further maximize results with a dedicated manufacturing partner,” said Michael Gilstrap, president and CEO, SewSporty. “It’s a natural fit given the capacity of our facility in Vista, CA, which enables Stonewear to continue manufacturing in the USA.”

Stonewear was founded in 1996 in Boulder, CO and was acquired by Great Trango Holdings Inc., a family of privately held climbing brands, in 2001. “Activewear is a complex market with numerous players,” added Chris Klinke, president of GTHI. “Stonewear requires a dedicated apparel manufacturer to take the brand to the next level, and given our history working together on the manufacturing side, we are confident SewSporty is the best choice.”
