San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS), which was created by Terry Armstrong and Lew Hayden, is reporting that the company has been has been awarded a new three-year contract with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to manufacture athletic footwear for members of the U.S. military. The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract is said to have a maximum value of $98.01 million.
The company said the contract was awarded following a competitive acquisition conducted by DLA Troop Support. The contract has no option periods and has a performance completion date of September 16, 2029.
“Under the contract, SAS will ensure service members are provided with American-made footwear that meets their training needs,” the company detailed in a media release. “Every United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard recruit attending basic training is provided per the Berry Amendment an American-made athletic trainer. The new award continues SAS’s longstanding relationship with the Defense Logistics Agency and its commitment to manufacturing specialized athletic footwear for America’s warfighters.”
SAS shoes are manufactured in the U.S., including the Mission 1 athletic trainer which will be supplied to military recruits.
“SAS is honored to continue our partnership with the Defense Logistics Agency and to have the opportunity to serve the men and women of our nation’s military,” said Nancy Richardson, CEO, SAS. “For generations, SAS has been committed to American craftsmanship, quality, and comfort. We are proud to bring those same standards to footwear designed to support our service members during their demanding training.”
SAS said it is the only company that has continually provided American-made athletic trainers to the warfighter since the Berry Amendment was first implemented. The company’s original DLA contract, awarded in 2017, established SAS as a supplier of specialized athletic footwear for U.S. military basic training. SAS reportedly received a one-year extension to the contract in 2021, and was again awarded a three-year renewal in 2023.
This new contract will continue SAS’s role in supplying American-made athletic footwear through the Defense Logistics Agency to support military training.
