Salt Life has opened a new retail store on Sanibel Island, FL, marking a return to retail and the first store opening since being acquired by Iconix International out of Delta Apparel’s bankruptcy proceedings in late 2024. Iconix said the store is the “first of multiple new retail locations.”
Iconix, in partnership with Hilco Consumer-Retail Group, acquired the Salt Life brand out of Delta Apparel’s bankruptcy proceedings for $38.74 million in September 2024. Following the acquisition, the new owners closed all of the brand’s 28 physical retail stores to focus initially on an e-commerce and wholesale brand-management model.
Iconix said the Sanibel store “marks the first of several planned retail openings as the Salt Life brand strengthens its direct-to-consumer strategy and deepens its presence in authentic coastal markets nationwide.”
“Sanibel is everything the Salt Life brand stands for,” said Ryan Sainsott, president of the Salt Life brand and SVP at Iconix International. “It’s a real-deal coastal community — from the docks before sunrise to offshore runs in the Gulf. Opening here represents a powerful moment for the Salt Life brand as we re-establish our retail presence and build the next phase of growth.”
