Salomon has appointed Finnish designer Heikki Salonen as the company’s first creative director.
With a career spanning 30 years, Salonen was previously head designer at Diesel before serving as creative director at MM6 Maison Margiela for 12 years.
In an official statement, Salomon said Salonen “will oversee the entire ‘soft goods’ category, including apparel and footwear.” He has been “entrusted with dual leadership of product design and brand creative direction,” to establish “a singular, authoritative tone of voice across every facet of the brand.”
Salonen will be based at the company’s headquarters in Annecy, France.
He will team up with Salomon’s newly appointed studio director, Laura Herbst, who has worked with Salonen for over a decade while at MM6, Céline and Maison Margiela.
Salomon said, “Their combined expertise in design, operational excellence and purpose-led creation is set to embody and cultivate a culture of risk-taking at Salomon, similar to the collaborations that first hinted at the brand’s street-style potential.”
The hiring follows Salomon Global Chief Brand Officer Scott Mellin’s mid-December 2025 announcement that he is leaving the company on April 1 after three years in the role.
