Amaury Sport Organisation, the French company that runs the Tour de France, has reached an agreement to acquire Competitor Group Inc., the San Diego-based event and media company, according to various online media reports.

Bob Wischnia, a former Runner's World editor, reported Sept. 13 on  RunTex.com that Competitor Group had been sold for $200 million to Amaury Sport Organisation. On Friday, Runner's World pointed to the RunTex.com article and other running-industry sources in also supporting the possible sale.

Niether organization has confirmed the sale.

Competitor Group, Inc. operates 45 national events including the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, Kids Rock Series, Columbia Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series and Competitor Triathlon Series. It also operates multi-platform media offerings including national print properties Competitor Magazine, Triathlete Magazine, VeloNews and Inside Triathlon.
