Penn State is reportedly close to ending its 32-year Nike partnership for a new deal with Adidas, pending approval from the Board of Trustees. News of the switch was originally reported by On3’s Brett McMurphy.
Penn State signed a partnership agreement with Nike in 1993, the same year that the Penn State Nittany Lions officially joined the Big Ten Conference. If Penn State signs a deal with Adidas, it would become the second school in less than a month to switch from Nike to the German athletic apparel and footwear manufacturer.
Adidas reached an agreement on August 13 with the University of Tennessee, effective July 1, 2026, to replace Nike as school’s athletic outfitter.
Adidas will also offer NIL opportunities for student-athletes, should the deal be ratified.
