During Forzani’s second quarter conference call with investors and the media, the company placed emphasis on their renovation efforts at Sport Chek and Coast Mountain Sports (See BOSS_0536). The Forzani Group is now seeing the results of these renovations pay dividends.

Sales and margins for the “Back to School” selling season jumped, with comparable store sales for the six-week period climbing 5.0% and sales, excluding the recently acquired Nevada Bob's and National Sports retail stores, up 8.4%. Retail system sales for the six-week period increased 20% over the same period last year.

Corporate comparable store sales were up 4.7% and the company said that margins “rebounded strongly, as expected,” and were considerably higher than the prior year, driven by the Sport Chek stores. The franchise network reported solid results for the same period, with comparable store sales up 5.6%.
