Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) plans to open a new store in Oxnard, CA in the fall of 2009. Located along Highway 101 at The Collection at Riverpark, the 28,000 square-foot, two-story REI will be the eighth location in the greater Los Angeles area, joining stores in Arcadia, Huntington Beach, Manhattan Beach, Northridge, Rancho Cucamonga, Santa Ana and Santa Monica. The co-op currently has 25 stores in California, the first location opening in Berkeley in 1975.
“REI is committed to helping more people discover the joys of outdoor recreation, and ensuring they have the right gear, apparel and information for their experiences,” said Greg Mellinger, REI retail director for Southern California. “Through our new store in Oxnard, we look forward to better serving the more than 9,000 active REI members already in Ventura County.”
Hiring clinics for the Oxnard store will occur approximately three months prior to the store’s opening, and the store will hire approximately 60 employees.
