Seattle Bike Supply (SBS) is voluntarily recalling about 200 of its Redline D640 bicycles because cracking in head tube weld joints can cause the head tube to separate from the frame, causing the rider to lose control and fall.  While the defect poses a risk of serious injury, only four of eight reports of head tubes separating from the frame resulted in minor scrapes and cuts, according to SBS.

The bicycles were imported from China and have black, aluminum frames. “REDLINE” is written down the frame's tube. The model number is written on the frame's top tube. The bike was sold by bicycle specialty stores nationwide from December 2007 to May 2010 for about $900.
