Ocean Management Systems Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is voluntarily recalling approximately 20,000 Buoyancy Compensators used for scuba diving.

Citing a problem with the compensators, the CPSC says the seal ring could crack, posing a drowning hazard to divers.

Sold in dive stores nationwide from May 2006 through August 2008, the units retailed for around $400.

Although no accidents have been reported, Ocean Management Systems is advising consumers to cease all use of the compensators and return them to a certified dealer for a replacement unit.
