Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. is recalling about 8,300  aerobars because the bolt used to  affix them to the bicycle can loosen, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

This recall involves carbon (shown to the right) and alloy aerobars sold individually and with model years 2012 through 2015 Specialized Shiv bicycles and model year 2013 Specialized Transition Apex bicycles. The carbon aerobar was sold in black with a white Specialized logo on the top side of the handlebar, and the alloy model was sold in black with no markings.

Specialized received four reports of the Aerobars bolt loosening. No injuries have been reported. The Morgan Hill, CA company has instructed consumers to immediately stop using the recalled aerobars and contact Specialized Bicycle Components to receive replacement extension mounting hardware.

The affected aerobars were made in Taiwan and sold by authorized Specialized Bicycle dealers nationwide and online at www.specialized.com from November 2011 to February 2015 for between $200 and $575.
