Salsa Cycles, which is owned by Quality Bicycle Products Inc.,  has recalled about 2,500 of its Bearpaw bicycle forks because they can bend or break and pose a fall hazard to the rider.

The recall involves all aluminum Salsa Bearpaw forks, which is shown to the right and was sold separately and on Mukluk bicycles. The forks have date code 20130524, 20130710 or 20130826 stamped on the fork steerer, followed by CWI2201BAN2 and a Salsa compass graphic on the bend of the fork blades. Consumers or the dealer will need to disassemble the front of the bicycle to access the steerer tube with the date code and model information. The forks were sold in tequila lime with black paint, metallic gold, red and black. The bikes were sold in sizes x-small, small, medium, large and x-large..

Though it has received no reports that a fork failure has caused any injuries, Salsa is instructing consumers to immediately stop using bikes equipped with the recalled forks and contact a Salsa dealer for inspection and a replacement fork.

The forks, or bikes equipped with the forks, were sold at bicycle stores nationwide and online at various websites from September 2013 through November 2014 for about $250 separately and for between $1,850 and $4,400 for the bicycles.
