Specialized Bicycle Components, Inc., of Morgan Hill, CA has recalled about 173 bicycles equipped with its Supernova Switchable Dynamo Front Hubs because the set screws in the front hub can loosen and stop the front wheel from turning, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

The recalled products are 2012 model year Source Eleven and Source Expert Disc bicycles with the Supernova Switchable Dynamo Front Hubs pictured to the right as part of the original equipment. The name “Specialized” is printed on the bicycle’s down tube and “Source Eleven” or “Source Expert” are printed on the top tube. The front hubs have “www.supernova-lights.com” and one of the following model numbers printed on them: 1207, 1208, 1226, 1227, 1228, 1241, 1254, 1263, 1284 and 1344.

No incidents or injuries were reported, but customers have been advised to immediately stop riding the recalled bicycles and bring them to an authorized Specialized dealer for a free replacement front wheel and new Supernova front hub.
The bicycles, which were manufactured in Taiwan, were sold by authorized dealers in the United States from October, 2011 to September, 2013 from about $2,000 to 2,700.
