Princeton Tec will sponsor for the fourth year, the Colorado Outward Bound Relay, one of the largest annual fundraising events for Outward Bound West.

Outward Bound West is a part of Outward Bound USA, the nation's leading, non-profit adventure-education organization serving and supporting four wilderness schools, two urban centers and a primary and secondary school-reform program.

“For more than 43 years the Outward Bound programs have done so much to turn around the lives of so many young people, as well as indoctrinate them into the outdoors,” said Mike Fattori, VP of Marketing and Sales for Princeton Tec.

“Being a part of the outdoor industry, Princeton Tec appreciates what the programs have done for the future of our industry as well as the future of our youth. Our product sponsorship for this fundraiser is our way of giving back to the Outward Bound program,” said Fattori.

The 24 hour, 170 miles team relay race will take place on Friday through Saturday, September 24th – 25th, 2004. The race will begin in Idaho Springs and finish in Glenwood Springs, CO, taking runners across three mountain passes (Guanella, Georgia and Vail), through aspen groves and on sections of the Colorado Trail. Participants will run on all types of terrain, including paved and dirt roads, bike paths and single-track trails.

“Last year this event raised over $90,000 to help provide scholarship funds, course improvements and general school necessities for Outward Bound West”, said Kim Wysocki, Colorado Outward Bound Relay race director. “We expect to break the $100,000 mark this year.”

All of the pre-event indicators show that the 2004 Colorado Outward Bound Relay will surpass the previous six years, capping participants at 150 teams with 1,500 runners. “We already have 131 teams registered to date,” said Wysocki, “In addition to the runners, there will be close to 400 volunteers and supporters.”

“Since its conception in 1961, the Outward Bound program in the United States has been at the forefront of outdoor education. Its mission has been to assist students in building both confidence as well as outdoor skills, by providing students with a series of progressively challenging opportunities for success. Sponsorships from generous companies like Princeton Tec, enable us to continue assisting students in discovering in themselves,” said Wysocki.
