PrimaLoft, Inc. has renewed its OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification for its PrimaLoft insulations, yarns, and performance down blends.

The certification ensures that PrimaLofts certified products have been tested and are free from harmful levels of more than 300 potentially dangerous substances such as residual surfactants, carcinogenic dyestuffs, heavy metals, and formaldehyde.

PrimaLofts OEKO-TEX certified insulations and yarns are used in outdoor, hunting, military, fashion, and work wear apparel including outerwear, fleeces, base layer garments and socks, as well as in a wide variety of bedding products. PrimaLoft has held the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification for approximately 15 years.

OEKO-TEX certification is another element of the exceptional comfort we build into our PrimaLoft products, said Mike Joyce, president and chief executive officer of PrimaLoft, Inc. In addition to physical comfort, our OEKO-TEX certified PrimaLoft products now promise the peace of mind that they are free from concerning chemicals. OEKO-TEX helps us create extraordinary comfort solutions that let people focus on and fully enjoy their activities, day or night, at play or at rest, in any climate and any condition.

The OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is consistent worldwide, reflecting the most up to date regulatory requirements for the many countries that make up the global textile supply chain, as well as the latest in textile manufacturing techniques and the most current medical knowledge. OEKO-TEX is aligned with the apparel industrys Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) initiative. Because of the modular nature of the OEKO-TEX certification program, brands using PrimaLoft Insulations and Yarns can take credit for PrimaLofts certification when applying for OEKO-TEX certifications for their own product lines.

The International OEKO-TEX Association, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, was founded in 1992 by the Austrian Textile Research Institute and the German Hohenstein Research Institutes. Currently, its membership includes 16 independent textile research and testing institutes with 52 offices in 60 countries. To date, more than 141,000 OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificates have been issued-with more than 13,300 issued per year-and 10,000 companies in 90 countries are working with OEKO-TEX to ensure that their products are tested for potentially harmful substances.
