Huffy, a United Wheels brand with over 130 years of expertise in the bike world, today announced the official launch of the Primus BMX Race Frame, marking the brand’s second professional-tier frame release since returning to competitive BMX in 2024.

The Primus is reported to be “the result of more than 18 months of development with direct input from the Huffy BMX Factory Team racers.” Three different prototypes were raced on the national stage, with the race team competing on final production frames at the 2026 Legacy Nationals in May. While last year’s Sledgehammer focused on freestyle, the Primus is a dedicated race frame designed for national- and Olympic-level racing.

Factory Team riders have already seen results on the Primus and have helped us develop a frame we are confident the community will be excited to line up on the gate with.”

The Primus has seen podiums with Two-time Olympian Nic Long winning the USA BMX Grand Nationals, Carly Kane winning a silver medal at the USAC National Championships, and Ethan Popovich making his first Elite Men’s Podium win in his rookie season, a couple of weeks ago in Nashville, TN.

The Primus is made from 6061-T6 aluminum and features a patent-pending captive external cable routing system for an internal look and easier maintenance. Additional technical features include toolless integrated chain tensioners, a tapered 1-1/8” to 1.5” head tube, and a T47 bottom bracket to maximize stiffness and provide future-proof crank options.
