Gorham, Maine — Flowfold, maker of minimalist gear for everyday adventure, today announced the release of its newest product: a 16L Tote Bag crafted from recycled Composite Racing Sailcloth with X-Ply, a high-performance material originally developed by Dimension Polyant for elite sailboat racing and windsurfing.
The new Recycled Sailcloth Porter Tote combines sustainability, durability and timeless design with a modern coastal aesthetic. Available in white, grey, blue and rust, the tote is built for daily use – from grocery runs and beach days to commuting and travel.
A Second Life for Cutting-Edge Materials
Composite Racing Sailcloth with X-Ply is a laminate of waterproof mylar reinforced with polyester and aramid fibers, offering an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio, resiliency and a distinctive geometric pattern. Engineered for the rigors of ocean racing, fabric runs with even the slightest imperfections are rejected by sailmakers. Flowfold sources this fabric to give it new life as stylish, functional carry gear, instead of being sent to the landfill.
“Transforming remnant sailcloth into long-lasting wallets and pouches has been part of Flowfold’s DNA from the start,” said Ponch Membreño, commercial director for Flowfold. “But surprisingly, it was our Japanese partners who pushed us to see things differently and apply this material to a totally new kind of tote design. It’s the latest example of how we can reimagine high-performance fabrics into everyday essentials while keeping waste out of landfills.”
