Piper Sandler’s semi-annual Taking Stock with Teens Survey, which marked its 25th year in 2025, is shifting to a once-a-year format.

A Piper Sandler spokesperson confirmed the change, although no reason was given for the move. The 2026 annual teen study will arrive in the fall.

Since 2000, Piper Sandler, formerly Piper Jaffray, has been releasing a study probing the purchasing preferences and behaviors of teens, with a spring version generally released in early April and a fall version in early October.

Often quoted by companies on quarterly calls, the extensive study from Piper Sandler’s research team has stood out for breaking out the rising and falling popularity of brands by gender in footwear, apparel, beauty, restaurant, and food categories. It also analyzed popularity by upper-income teens, a group that tends to set trends, versus overall teens. Other topics explored have recently included social media and tech, including favorite apps and video consumption, as well as celebrity and influencer rankings.

The Fall 2025 survey, conducted in partnership with DECA, was based on a survey of 10,959 teens across the U.S. At the time of its release, Piper Sandler said its equity research team had more than 66 million data points on teen preferences and spending from 25 years of researching teens.
