PHIT America, a coalition of leading sports and fitness industry companies and organizations, is urging the industry this week to  promote and advocate for the PEP Program and the PHIT Act.  

The call-to-action comes as 150 sports stars and industry executives next week will be on Capitol Hill for the SFIA National Health Through Fitness Day to support passage of boht programs.
 
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) Bill, a 13-year-old program pioneered by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA),  provides grants to school districts to support innovative physical education methods

The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act is new legislation, would change current federal tax law to allow for the deduction or use of pre-tax dollars to cover expenses related to sports, fitness and other physical activities.

In January, PHIT America was formed with a goal of combating the obesity and sedentary activity crisis by promoting new legislation and grassroots programs that will help get Americans more active, playing more sports, getting fit and becoming healthier

PHIT America is a new non-profit which has 118 Alliance Sponsors including eight ‘Founders, which initially started this campaign. The ‘Founders include ACTIVE Network, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Didgebridge, Midtown Athletic Clubs, National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA), Sears, Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), and the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

This year-round campaign is being led by Jim Baugh, a sports industry veteran, who is a former President of Wilson Sporting Goods, current SFIA board member, and an inductee of the NSGA Sporting Goods Industry Hall of Fame.
