Outside Magazine published its 2011 Best Places to Work list, which identifies companies and non-profits in the outdoor space that do the best job helping employees balance work with an active and socially and ecologically conscious lifestyle.

The yearlong selection process, which is supported by the Outdoor Industry Association, solicits input from nonprofit and for-profit organizations with at least 15 employees working in the United States. Harrisburg, PA–based Best Companies Group  sends all applicants employer questionnaires and confidential employee-satisfaction surveys to collect information about benefits, compensation, policies, job satisfaction, environmental initiatives, and communityservice programs. Results were analyzed by Best Companies Group experts, who selected the 50 companies, ranking them according to which best enabled employees to balance productivity with an active and socially and ecologically conscious lifestyle.
