The blog that quickly became the talk of the outdoor industry has been shut down after a run of just under a year. ThePiton.com appeared before OR Summer Market last year and word spread quickly at the show about an anonymous group of outdoor industry executives who grouped together to “let out some steam.” The site turned into a source of entertainment for members from every corner of the industry, and a source of annoyance for others.

The masked faces behind the site cited several reasons for shutting down including a cease and desist letter and the toll that creative energy takes when it must be balanced with work and family.

“Many times our greatest inspiration came in the middle of the night when we thought our significants wouldn’t notice, only to realize that we paid the price the next day as we nodded off during an important meeting,” wrote the author of the last post. “We’ve had a few nice offers to take over this endeavor, but after talking with the authors, we feel it’s best to just close this chapter of outdoor opinion. Thank you to the authors, contributors, and readers.”
