The Pacific Crest Trail Association (PCTA) is turning up the volume on its #ResponsiblyWild campaign in anticipation of the Dec. 5 release of the film Wild, which is based on the best-selling book by Cheryl Strayed.

#ResponsiblyWild kicked off Oct. 22 with the launch of a microsite at pcta.org/wild, which was launched with support from Cordura Brand Fabric, Gregory, Leki, REI, and Royal Robbins. The Wild microsite features inspiring stories, tips and
tricks, and hikes from the film.

Starting next week, PCTA will take the campaign to another level to take advantage of the film in which Reese Witherspoon plays the role of Strayed.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, the film is expected to create unprecedented awareness of the PCT and will create opportunities for millions to discover a new perspective, far from traffic, a world away from paying bills and running errands.

On Dec. 5, PCTA will release a special Wild edition of its Communicator member magazine. This special, collectible issue will be packed with gorgeous photographs, an exclusive interview with Cheryl Strayed, behind-the-scenes of the film stories, and information about PCTAs work to keep the trail  open and safe.

To create more awareness of our campaign, PCTA will be giving away gear from its outdoor industry sponsors from Dec. 15 through Jan. 12, as well as Wild movie-related products. Prize packages will increase in value each week. PCTA will also give away prizes through pop-up contests on social media throughout the month. To learn more and enter to win Wild prizes, visit pcta.org/wild beginning Dec. 15.

Cheryl Strayed was keynote speaker at The Conservation Alliance Breakfast at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in 2013.

The #ResponsiblyWild campaign is made possible through the generous contributions of a select  group of partners. According to Liz Bergeron, Executive Director of PCTA, Pacific Crest Trail Association is thankful for the longstanding support from ALL of our corporate partners in the outdoor industry. We are particularly happy to acknowledge the generosity of CORDURA Brand Fabric, Gregory, LEKI, REI, and Royal Robbins for supporting the #ResponsiblyWild campaign!

The PCTA was first chartered as the Pacific Crest Trail Conference in 1977. PCTA is the only nonprofit organization dedicated solely to protecting the entire Pacific Crest Trail through California, Oregon and Washington. Money donated through memberships, private and corporate gifts and government grants is used to organize and train thousands of volunteers who keep the trail safe and passable for hikers and horseback riders. PCTA staff and volunteers advocate for the trail and the surrounding landscape with government land managers and decision makers. They monitor development and resource extraction projects and ensure the trail is considered and protected. PCTA promotes the trail to increase public support for the resource and the value it provides. And through volunteer and  educational programs, PCTA brings young people to the trail, creating tomorrows stewards and advocates. Learn more at www.pcta.org
