The 2013 edition of Outdoor Retailer (OR) Summer Market trade show and Open Air Demo will feature a variety of new fly fishing-focused exhibit areas, venues and programs.

“Each summer show we see more fly shops attending the show to freshen their offering and build better businesses, and this year we are supercharging the show to deliver greater value to fly-centric businesses,” said Kenji Haroutunian, Nielsen Expo Outdoor Group vice president and OR show director. “This crossover opportunity is at the heart of why the OR show continues to build energy and momentum.”

New for Summer Market 2013, Outdoor Retailer will host The Fly Fishing Lounge which will cluster relevant brands in the Pavilions, highlighting a business community center that features the newest products, modern technology solutions and interactive displays from the fly fishing industry.

Other new areas and features include:

  • Provo River Dusk Patrol – Unique opportunities to conduct business on a world-class, blue-ribbon trout stream
  • The Casting Pond – At 30 x 170 there will be plenty of room to try out different rod/reel/line combos and techniques on a first class casting pond.

The new show features will directly benefit not only those unique storefronts at OR Summer Market that have ranked “fly fishing & fishing” as a major market segment they serve, but other retailers who want to discover new crossover product opportunities for their stores. These buyers, more than 8,000 retailers and 3,000 stores, will gain valuable knowledge about this segment and how they can create partnerships across market segments.

Returning to the show will be industry trendsetters like Orvis, Redington and Umpqua, Patagonia, Montana Fly Company, Fishpond and ExOfficio. New brands to show include Maven Fly and Fisherman Eyewear, along with dozens of long-time outdoor exhibitors launching products that are directly related to or relevant to the fly market.

“Fly fishing is a sport that can be done during a hiking or camping trip, so OR is a very logical market for our brand,” said Redington’s Kara Armano. “We feel that our product line opens the doors to those with an active lifestyle who prefer quality, versatile pieces that can be used not only for fly fishing but getting outdoors in general.”
