Olympia Sports, the sporting goods chain based in Westbrook, ME, said that Dick Coffey will be retiring as president, effective Sept. 1. Ed Manganello Jr., general merchandise manager, will succeed him as president at that time.

Coffey has worked at Olympia Sports for over 35 years in almost every capacity of the operation, and has been president for the last 12 years. He will continue to be involved after his retirement as a member of the company's board of directors and will consult on new store growth.

“We congratulate Dick on the announcement of his retirement, and on his outstanding and impressive career at Olympia Sports,” Olympia Sports said in a statement.

Ed Manganello Jr. started his career with Olympia in 1992 “and has built an outstanding reputation in the industry as both an aggressive merchant and as a responsible steward of the business. We look forward to Ed and his team leading Olympia into this next era and executing its aggressive growth plans,” the company said.

His father, Ed Manganello Sr., is the founder and chairman.

Tim Adams will be named the new GMM when Manganello assumes the presidency in September.  Adams joined the company in 1995 in the field, and has held, supervised or helped develop every position in the merchandise department.  Olympia Sports said in the statement, “Tim has demonstrated expertise in all aspects of merchandising. We congratulate Tim on this promotion, and wish him well in his new responsibilities.”

The statement concluded, “With the changes in leadership listed above, Olympia is poised for continued growth and success.”

Olympia Sports operates over 180 stores in the Northeast. The first store opened at the Maine Mall in South Portland in 1975.
