To leverage outdoor industry resources to introduce more Americans to the benefits of an active lifestyle, Outdoor Industry Foundation has launched Getting Americans Active, a database of outreach programs and initiatives designed to promote increased youth participation in outdoor recreation. Getting Americans Active is a searchable online database of more than 100 national, regional, and local outreach programs that would benefit from local and national partnerships with companies and individuals in the outdoor industry.

“Getting Americans Active will help our industry identify outreach programs within their areas of interest, facilitating partnerships and maximizing effective allocation of resources,” notes Frank Hugelmeyer, President of Outdoor Industry Association. “Often, outdoor industry companies and individuals who want to get involved in philanthropic endeavors don’t know where to start. Getting Americans Active solves that problem.”

Getting Americans Active is an actionable database that identifies tangible opportunities for outdoor businesses and individuals to get involved locally with community organizations. The database enables users to search for organizations focusing on 40+ recreational activities from outdoor pursuits like hiking, biking, camping and kayaking to traditional activities like swimming. This innovative tool helps connect outdoor businesses and individuals with educators, non-profit organizations, and communities who are in need of volunteers, board members, gear, and charitable donations.

“Based on everything we have heard from our members, deciding where and how to get involved can be a daunting task,” adds Hugelmeyer. “Determining which programs align with your company, which ones produce measurable results, and which ones are looking for what you want to give, can often add up to an overwhelming amount of work. With the launch of Getting Americans Active, we’ve already done the work so the outdoor industry can focus their resources on making a difference.”

Every program profiled in Getting Americans Active has been examined to ensure that it meets a strict set of guidelines. This dynamic resource is continually updated and enhanced, with new programs added throughout the year.
