Outdoor Industry Association reported that 14 of the 17 candidates supported by the OIA Political Action Committee won in Tuesday’s mid-term Congressional elections, while two lost, and one race, Representative Scott Peters in the CA 52nd district, remains too close to call.

Eight of the elected candidates are Republican and nine are Democrats.

Tuesdays midterm election was a historical landslide for Republicans who won seven of 10 key U.S. Senate races, handing the GOP control of the upper chamber of Congress with at least a 52-to-46-seat majority and added at least 15 seats in the House of Representatives, giving them their largest majority there in more than a half-century. Two Independents have said they will caucus with the Democrats.

International trade may be an area where President Obama and a Republican Congress can find common ground, and outdoor recreation has been attracting increasing bipartisan support that is likely to continue in the new Congress.

At the state and local levels, voters approved a record $13 billion for land conservation, parks and open space through ballot initiatives, according to the Trust for Public Land.
