The Outdoor Industry Association’s Political Action Committee has chosen a veteran Congressman and former Outward Bound instructor to receive its first ever campaign contribution.

The OIA’s PAC donated $2,300 to the campaign of U.S. Rep. Mark Udall, (D-Eldorado Springs), who is running for the U.S. Senate. He is the son of former U.S. Rep. Morris “Mo” Udall, who ran for president in 1976. The younger Udall represents Colorado’s second Congressional District, which stretches from Boulder to the Western slope of the Continental Divide.

In his five terms in Congress, Udall has been an advocate of a balanced energy plan and pushed legislation turning the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons facility into a wildlife refuge. He capped off a 20-year career at Outward Bound as its executive director in 1995. He is an avid mountaineer who has tried to summit Everest and is married to Maggie Fox, a prominent attorney and conservationist.

A report filed by the OIA PAC shows it raised $22,450 in the quarter ended June 30, 2008.
